Swift Awareness Week was first held in 2019 with groups around the country holding over 90 events in 2020: celebrating this wonderful bird, bringing attention to its decline and encouraging people to do something about it. 
This page is intended to publicise summer events both during and outside Swift Awareness Week 2021. If you wish to promote an event here, then please email Nick Brown
June 2021

Thu 1st July 2021 14:00 - 17:00 Bolton and Bury Swifts will be displaying all things Swift incl. Boxes & Call devices, at a special event in Fletcher Moss Park, Didsbury, Manchester M20 concerning the recognition of Emily Williamson as a key founder of the RSPB (see ).
Sat 3rd July at 7.30pm. Kingsteignton Church, Newton Abbot TQ12 3UA.  A Swift evening with a variety of nest boxes on display with information on how to help them.

Sat 3rd July  Bradford on Avon.   Swift stall at the Holy Trinity 'street market'. Details tbc.

Sat 3rd July Swifts will feature on Radio Cymru in an interview with Ben Stammers of the NW Wales Wildlife Trust. Details tbc. 
Sat 3rd July 19.30 - 21.00 Swift Walk and Talk - Salisbury
Come and see the largest swift nesting colony in Salisbury and observe the spectacular acrobatics of the Swift up close. Learn more about it's life and why it needs our help. Limited to 20 people. Booking via our Facebook page or email from the Contact Us page on our website.
Meet outside Sarum College in the Cathedral Close. A suggested donation of £5 will be collected on the day.

Sat 3 July  Olveston, near Bristol. Olveston Primary School children have made a lovely five-panel display about swifts to hang on the external school wall. It will be on show all week. Swifts nest on the school buildings and the children have been learning all about them.

Sat 3 July – 11 July Edinburgh There are four cycle & two walking routes running throughout SAW that link up swift murals, spots to do a swift survey, swift hubs & swift streets. Organised by the RSPB Swift Cities project. Details at:  .

Sat 3 July Hastings & Rother Swift Conservation Group will be outside Battle Abbey on Abbey Green, East Sussex all morning with their stall to mark the beginning of Swift Awareness Week

Sun 4th July 12:30 - 16:30 Bristol Swifts: National Garden Scheme/Swift charity event (Adults £5.00. Children Free). Mon 5 July 20:00. Chaddesden, Derby. An evening walk in an area where 50 swift nest boxes were installed after some re-roofing work in 2020. Meet at The Racecourse Car Park, St Mark’s Road, Chaddesden. Booking will be via Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. (Details to follow).

Wed 7 July:   Oswestry. Join Sarah Gibson for an evening talk/walk around the town in conjunction with the local bookshop looking for and learning about swifts and Sarah’s new book ‘Swifts and Us’. Details to follow.

Fri 9th July Youlgrave, Derbyshire. A stroll round the village looking for swifts. This is a private event aimed solely at villagers.

Fri 9th July 19.30 - 21.00 Swift Walk and Talk - Wilton

In collaboration with Wilton Wildlife Group - Spend a Summer's evening strolling around Wilton to watch the town's resident Swifts. Learn more about their incredible lives and how you can help their sad decline. Meet in the Car Park at Castle Meadows where we will hear all about the newly created wildflower and butterfly bank. Sat 9 July 7.30pm  Ilsington, Dartmoor, Devon. Swift meet up & walk starting at the Carpenters Arms Pub TQ13 9RG.  Local enthusiasts will also bring along a range of swift boxes and books.

Sat 10 July 12 to 4pm Horsham St Faith, Norwich NR10 3JJ. The garden of Melbourne Cottage overlooks a colony of 20 Swifts that nest in the Wesleyan Chapel next door. The Stafford-Smiths welcome visitors to view the birds and to see an informative stall and display about swifts, with photos, swift boxes and leaflets. Refreshments available. Sat 10th July 08:00-14:30 NarVos (Nar Valley Ornithological Society), will have a stall on Swaffham Market, Norfolk. There will be displays, nest boxes for sale. Some local shop owners will also be advertising our cause with window displays.
Sat 10 July at 7.30pm Melbourne, Derbyshire. An evening walk (ca. 1 mile) watching and learning about the swifts that weave and scream over the town. Meet at the large square bus shelter in Melbourne Market Place (SK386251).
Sun 11th July 7.0pm Minchinhampton. Meet in the car park behind Holy Trinity Church. A short talk followed by a walk around the town led by John Crowther, Stroud Swift Group, to look for swifts and their nest sites. Tel 01453 753358 to book.    
Sun 11 July at 7.30pm Bedford, Bedfordshire. An evening walk (ca. 1-2 miles) watching and learning about the swifts that fly and scream over the Victorian streets of Bedford town centre (weather allowing). Meet outside St. Andrews Church, Kimbolton Road, Bedford, MK40 2PF.

Wed 14 July: Donhead St Mary, Wiltshire. An outdoor talk by Christopher Nicholson in the beautiful churchyard. There’s an active swift colony in the church roof. Numbers are restricted. Please email if you would like to come.
