One of the commonest places for Swifts to breed is under open eaves with the nest on top of the wall plate. As most eaves are now closed, this denies Swifts the opportunities they once had.
The nest box illustrated here provides an enclosed nest chamber resting on the soffit. No wildlife can get beyond the enclosure. It is a simple and effective solution.
This is a version of the S Brick, a versatile solution for Swift nest boxes in buildings.
Requirements are eaves at least 5 metres high with a clear flyway in front. Eaves at least 15 cm wide should provide enough space.
